Scottish Premiership – Unknown Clubs in the Competition

Scottish Premiership

The Scottish Premiership is one of the most popular in the world and is filled with many great clubs. You may have heard of the likes of Celtic, Hibernian, Rangers, and Livingston. But there are many more clubs that are not well known and that are also in the competition. We will take a look at what each of them has achieved so far in the season.

Hibernian

Hibernian started the season on a poor note. However, the team had five wins in their first six matches at Easter Road. They then lost to Celtic Park in the final game of the season, despite scoring three goals in the first half.

But Hibs showed their resilience by surviving a relegation play-off. It ended in the club’s best result in a decade, gaining promotion to the Scottish Premier Division. The following season, they finished fourth, earning the opportunity to participate in the UEFA Europa League.

Hibs’ manager of the year award went to Tony Mowbray. During his time at Easter Road, Mowbray established an attacking style of football. In his second season, he won the Scottish Football Writers’ Association manager of the year award. He also reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Celtic

Celtic have been a perennial contender in the Scottish Premiership. They have won the title ten times in the last eleven seasons and they have been to the cup finals in two of those years. During that time they have never finished lower than second place, which is a huge achievement for a team in their second decade of existence.

This season was different to all previous ones. It started with a new manager in Ange Postecoglou, a relatively unknown Australian who inherited a side that finished in sixth place after seven games in the top flight. In addition to playing every team in the top flight three times, the club had to endure a five-match gauntlet that was designed to reward teams chasing European qualification.

Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock have secured their place in the Scottish Premiership after a year’s break. The club’s only league defeat in the last six months came in a 2-2 draw at Livingston in November. They have a one-point lead at the top of the table, with Ross County, Dundee United, Hearts, St Mirren and Morton all above them.

However, a defeat to Raith Rovers on Wednesday night means Killie have lost four away games in the league since the turn of the year. It also means they haven’t won a game at home for the first time since January. That’s not good news for a team that’s been on a good run in the league.

Motherwell

Motherwell Football Club competes in the Scottish Premiership. A team of professional players play their home matches at the Fir Park Stadium in North Lanarkshire. They have been involved in a number of cup wins, including the Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup and Summer Cup.

The club has been in the top three in the league for seven seasons. However, the team’s poor form has led to a relegation battle with Falkirk. This season, Motherwell sit in seventh place. It’s a far cry from the side that were relegated in 1979.

Willie MacFadyen scored 52 goals in one season and remains the club’s all-time record goal scorer. During his time, the ‘Well won their first Scottish League title. In 1931/32, the team won 38 games, scoring 119 goals..

Rangers

Rangers have had a good Scottish Premiership season this year. In their 36-match campaign, the club won 32 of 38 matches and reached the Scottish Cup final. A number of players have performed well in the league this year, and it’s no surprise that the team finished in the top four.

Rangers also managed to make it to the top table for the first time since 2010. The last time the club won the premiership was in 2010-11, when Walter Smith was in charge.

The most successful player in Rangers history is James Tavernier. He is a right-back and has scored 29 goals and assisted 30 assists. His rating is a whopping 7.22.

Livingston

Livingston have experienced a mixed bag of a season. Although they’ve won five games on home soil, they have also suffered six defeats on the road.

Despite this, the Livvy have still managed to finish sixth in the Scottish Premiership. The team has only conceded one goal on their home soil in the entire season.

They have also picked up five more points than they did last season. As a result, they’re now only two points behind Hibernian in third place.

Obviously, they’ve made it through to the promotion play-offs. However, they’ll be facing a tough challenge against Celtic in their next game.
