PMP Certification

Project Management Professionals (PMPs) are becoming some of the most well-paid professionals in most industries as their demand grows massively. And the reason they are paid so well, aside from their possessing the most incredible skill set, is the fact that while their demand continues to rise, it remains difficult to become one. That is because the PMP certification requirements are not so easy to meet. This article will discuss these requirements in detail.

The following are the requirements for getting PMP certification:
  • Firstly, to apply for PMP certification, one should have a graduation degree or equivalent.
  • Secondly, one should have at least 60 months or 4500 working hours worth of experience. These hours can’t overlap. Thus, there is a minimum experience requirement.
  • One should also have 35 contact hours of formal project work education.
  • The candidate must not have appeared more than twice in the past year.

The above requirements mean that only a small percentage of the workforce is eligible for the PMP certification. A fresher can not go for this course, and it is basically an advancement course. There are several reasons for having these requirements in place. Some of these reasons include the following:

  • Minimal education requirements ensure that the employees have desired basic knowledge.
  • The experience requirement ensures that those candidates that have some knowledge of project work will go for the course.
  • The experience requirements also mean that the candidates are bringing at least some talent for the skills that are required by the Project Management Professionals.
  • A formal project work education will ensure that the candidates have ample opportunities and resources to educate themselves about the course material.
  • The requirement for project work education also ensures that they will be well-versed with the requirements of the course.
  • The upper limit on the number of attempts ensures that the candidates won’t try the exams repeatedly without fully preparing for them same.

Membership of PMI – optional, not required

A PMI Membership is optional and not required for PMI certification. However, it proves itself inexpensive in the long run in most cases. As the overall costs of getting the course can come down tremendously once one gets the certification.

It is thus highly recommended that one should go for a PMI membership.

Getting training for PMP certification

If one meets the various requirements mentioned above and wants to go for PMP certification. One should go for proper training for the same. Though training is not a mandatory requirement. It is often needed by most candidates as the course has a hard syllabus. Thus it is highly recommended to go for online or classroom training for the course.

The choice of the institute shall also play a vital role. Not all training institutes are the same, and one should pick the institute. After careful consideration on the basis of faculty, quality, course, testimonies, charges, and other criteria.

The Bottom Line

One can easily wrap up the above discussion by concluding that it is important to meet the requirements of PMP certification before one attempt to go for it.

The role of leadership in an organization is very essential, as it help influence & motivate the team members so to accomplish the project requirements. Leadership skills can be developed through different approaches.
