Are you planning for a new shower enclosure installation? or simply want a walk-in shower for your bathroom? You will need to consider various factors, including a shower tray. Whether it’s a quadrant shower enclosure or any other type, the shower base is an important part of it. It not only provides you with a firm surface to stand within a shower cubicle but also directs water quickly towards the drain. Your choice of shower pans, whether a quadrant shower tray or any other depending on your cubicle design, is installed with a small tilt or slope that makes the water roll off quickly towards the drain. So, it is like a funnel for the passage of the water.

Why Shower Trays are Important?

The construction of a shower area often starts with the preparation of a base. A shower tray is often a choice when you need to install a shower enclosure as it provides a readymade, waterproof, sturdy surface to start with. Most of such trays have acrylic, fibreglass, or PVC material that is soft, sturdy, and waterproof, exactly what it should be for the shower. The benefits include

  • The shower pans make water quickly go into the drainage.
  • These are waterproof and protect the water from getting into the main bathroom area.
  • It protects your shower area walls and floor from getting leaks or water damage.
  • You minimize the risk of slipping because of a tray.
  • These are easier to clean and maintain that making it easier for you to maintain your shower area.

 Shower Tray Types

If you decide to choose a shower tray, there are different options. These are based on their shapes. These can be rectangular, square, quadrant shower trays, etc. Here is what’s the difference between them and how you should pick one of them.

Quadrant Shower Trays.

It is similar to a half-circle shape, making it the only choice with two straight edges in addition to a curved frontage. It is a perfect fit for converting a corner into a shower area. That is where we usually fit the quadrant shower enclosure. The shower door to fit with the type of tray is a sliding door as it also adds up to the space-saving. You may also fit a hinged door, provided that it will not create a problem when opening due to a lack of clearance space. Therefore, when it comes to choosing a shower tray for a small bathroom, a quadrant shower tray is the best option.

In case you have a bit extra space available on both sides, you may consider an offset quadrant shower pan that is a variation of a standard quadrant tray. It is suitable to fit with an offset shape enclosure offering a bit extra space for a better shower experience.

Square Shower Tray Vs. Quadrant Shower Tray

As the name suggests, it is a tray that comes in a square shape. It is designed to perfectly complement shower enclosures of the same shape. Considered to be the traditional or classic option that is suitable even when for most shower spaces where an enclosure is not being installed and fit in the Corner. You can adjust the sliding and hinged door over it with the cubicle. You should prefer it for the medium to large bathrooms as it features a more central location than others. It is available from 700mm, which is suitable for small bathrooms, to the largest available size 1200mm which will fit with a large shower enclosure.

Rectangular Shower Trays Vs. Quadrant Shower Trays.

Another option that is suitable for larger spaces is rectangular trays. In comparison to quadrant showers, these provide a more spacious shower area due to a bigger space inside the shower enclosure. As it is suitable for rectangular cubicles, that often for bigger space, you can fit all types of shower doors on it. Another great thing about the rectangular shape is that it works perfectly in all types of shower spaces, modern to minimalist or traditional. These come in relatively larger sizes in comparison to quadrant trays. The size often starts from 900mm and goes up to 2000mm. If you have a bigger space, you should prefer it over a quadrant.

Final Thoughts.

We have discussed all the different shower trays available in the market and compared them to the quadrant shower tray. The choice of a tray highly depends on the available bathroom space and the shape of the shower enclosure. Quadrant trays offer the most space-saving design and therefore be suitable for small bathrooms. You can fit them into the corner and utilize the often-unused space by converting the area into a shower enclosure. Perfect for Modern Bathroom
