5 Ways to Feel Younger and More Confident

by Steven Brown

So much of what people see in the mirror reflects their thoughts and feelings. If you’re feeling older, your face will show it. Whether you’re older than your years or want to feel more confident, it’s not hard to find ways to make yourself look younger. The following suggestions can help boost your self-esteem as well as your appearance.

1. Exercise regularly

Regular exercise helps keep both bodies and minds healthy, making you feel younger and more confident. It also reduces stress levels and boosts self-esteem by boosting endorphin production in the brain. Experts recommend that adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week (such as brisk walking) or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity per week (such as jogging or running). You should also do muscle-strengthening activities (such as lifting weights) at least twice a week.

2. Learn how to dress like a woman who’s in her prime

You don’t need to wear clothing that’s too young, but if you’re going to dress like an adult, you must know how to dress like one. Some women find that wearing clothes that flatter their figure makes them feel more confident and sexy. Even if they’re not exactly what they’d wear when they were younger! You should know it’s not about wearing black turtlenecks or making sure your shoes match your purse. It’s about feeling good and embracing your style. Consider trying out different styles until you find one that suits you now as opposed to when you were younger (and thinner). If you’re shopping online or at a store that doesn’t have dressing rooms (which is pretty much everyone), asks for help when trying things on so that you don’t end up with something that doesn’t fit well or look flattering.

3. Get a facelift

The most obvious way to look younger is to have a mid facelift or cheek lift. This surgical procedure uses incisions and sutures to remove excess skin and tighten underlying tissue, giving the patient a more youthful appearance. It can be performed with local anesthesia or general anesthesia, which means you will be asleep for the procedure. Facelifts are commonly performed on women in their 50s and 60s, but they may also be performed on men and older patients. A facelift’s cost varies depending on your surgery’s complexity and where you live.

4. Have fun with your hair color

If you’re feeling low about the side effects of aging (like gray hair), consider changing your look with a new hairstyle or color! It’s easy to cover gray hair with highlights (or lowlights), which can help you look younger and fresher. There are many ways to feel younger and more confident with your hair color. If you decide to go all out with a drastic change of color, make sure you get a cut that works with your new ‘do — or at least a trim before you make the change, so the style is balanced and proportional. If you’re a brunette, try going red; if you’re a blonde, try going brunette. The key is not to get too carried away — no matter your age, you want people to recognize you when they see you out and about! You can do this for free at home or a salon — just make sure you use quality products so that your tresses stay healthy long-term. You’ll be surprised at how much of a difference it makes.

5. Try some new makeup techniques.

Try applying foundation with a brush or sponge instead of your fingertips, or use concealer on any dark circles under your eyes. Find out what colors look good on you, and stay away from colors that don’t flatter your skin tone. For example, if you have pale skin and green eyes, avoid wearing yellow eye shadow because it will make you look washed out. Also, stick to neutrals like browns and tans for eyeshadows and lipsticks instead of bold colors like blues or reds.

Don’t forget about blushes! They can do wonders for making your face look brighter and more youthful by bringing color back into your cheeks. Use bronzer if you have pale skin or blush with darker skin tones. Use eyeliner sparingly along the upper lash line (not below) to create the illusion of bigger eyes; this works best if the rest of your face is free of makeup except for mascara.

If you are not confident with your choices, others will not be either. Find a style that suits you, and do not feel you have to conform to peer groups. You have to feel comfortable in your skin first. As time passes and your age, you might lose the youthful beauty of youth, but your confidence will sustain and enhance that beauty. Stay true to yourself, and it shows outwardly.
