The 14th Presidents Cup will be held at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, and will be join by a dozen of the world’s greatest golfers. The United States and International teams will kick off the four-day event in North Carolina on Thursday morning. Each team in the tournament has 12 players, six of whom are chosen base on their position on the season-long points list. The other six are chosen by the respective captains of the team. The United States uses FedEx points to help decide their automatic six. The International team selects the top six players from the table using the Official Golf World Ranking points system. The United States has been a dominant force in the Cup since its establishment in 1994, going 11-1-1 overall. It has won eight consecutive matches, including a strong 19-11 victory in 2017 and a 16-14 tie in Australia three years ago. The only occasion the International team won was at Royal Melbourne in 1998. PGA Tour started the Presidents Cup for players not involved in the Ryder Cup – another golf competition between United States and Europe. The Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup are play in alternate years. Numerous former presidents have attended, including Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama in 2017. Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump are report to be the only ones who have attended the tournament while still in the White House.

The Presidents Cup Is Not A Golf Event

The Presidents Cup is a team golf competition between the U.S. and a team from Europe. It is play over four days and involves a total of 30 matches. Each match is worth one point. The winner is the team that scores the most points. On Thursday and Friday, players play alternate shot matches while on Saturday and Sunday, they play foursomes. The final day features twelve singles matches. The team with the most points wins the Cup. The Presidents Cup is a team competition between professional golfers. It features foursomes, fourball and singles matches. Although it does not have the tradition and history that the Ryder Cup has, the event has proved popular among golf fans. It has helped raise funds for charities and introduced some young stars to a wide audience. It also keeps the game in the public eye during the NFL season.

First Presidents Cup

The first Presidents Cup was held in 1994 and took place at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Prince William County, Virginia. The international team was captained by World Golf Hall of Fame member David Graham. US Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush served as Honorary Chairman of the event. Other notable names who have served as Honorary Chairman of the Presidents Cup include Prime Minister Stephen Harper and US President Bill Clinton. The 2022 Presidents Cup will take place at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. The event will feature the best golfers in the world competing for the coveted trophy. The tournament is scheduled to take place over four days, from Thursday to Sunday, and will consist of 30 matches. The teams will play each other five team matches on Thursday, eight matches on Friday, and 12 singles matches on Sunday.

differences between the Presidents Cup and the Ryder Cup

There are some differences between the Presidents Cup and the Ryder Cup. The Presidents Cup is play twice a year, and the Ryder Cup takes place every two years. Both events feature 12 golfers from the United States and 12 players from the rest of the world. Each team will allocate a portion of the tournament proceeds to a different charity. To date, the Presidents Cup has raised $54.4 million for charity. The tournament is sponsor by Citi, Rolex, and Cognizant. The United States uses FedEx Cup points to determine their team. While the International team uses the Official Golf World Ranking points, the teams will have to earn points from at least 15 events. In contrast, the Ryder Cup matches feature only six teams. As a result, captains have to play all their players. The European team didn’t use its three best players in the 1999 Ryder Cup, but this could be because their team wasn’t as strong as the U.S. team. As a result, the Europeans lost the match by a point. President Joe Biden has accepted an invitation to be the Honorary Chairman of the Presidents Cup this year. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement, “We are thankful for President Biden’s acceptance of our invitation to serve as Honorary Chairman for the 2022 Presidents Cup with the event’s return to the United States. The Presidents Cup has a long-standing tradition of hosting world leaders, spanning several decades and many countries across all party lines, and the addition of President Biden to that list of men and women will help promote and grow the event worldwide and further our efforts in unifying people through the game of golf.” [1]

Charitable contributions

The Presidents Cup has raised more than $54.4 million for 460 charities in 18 countries since its establishment in 1994. Unlike most sporting events, players in the Presidents Cup are not paid for their engagement. Instead, each player, captain, and assistant captain receives $150,000 to contribute to a charity of their choice. Contributions by players Tim Clark, Lucas Glover, Jay Haas and others have benefited a wide range of charity groups all across the world. The Duke Cancer Institute, Greenville Health System and the Barbara Stone Foundation are some of the organizations that have received donations. “The Presidents Cup provides a unique opportunity for participants to donate to causes that are close to their hearts. The results are something we will continue to acknowledge and celebrate long after the final putt is hole at Quail Hollow in 2022.” – Adam Sperling. [2]
