Back in September 2019, before lockdowns and Covid, I successfully passed the AWS Certification Architect test known as SAA-C01. Those were simpler times. I was under the impression that re-certification would involve taking a shorter refresher exam, but it turns out that I was wrong about that. The only options available are to re-pass the same exam in its entirety or the one immediately after it in the hierarchy.
