How to Prevent Property Damage

If this is the first time you have bought a house, then you must be excited and overwhelmed. While you might want to take your time with settling into your new house, you will have to care about some things from the very start to prevent property damage.

Here are two very basic things that people ignore regarding property damage prevention.

Service Your Garage Door

This isn’t a word lie – many people have problems with their garage doors. Don’t believe us? Go and ask your neighbors; they will tell you a similar story. However, as a newbie homeowner, it is your responsibility to keep your house in the best condition.

Besides, you would not want your car stuck inside the garage or outside the garage, with the doors halfway open while you might be running late for some meeting. Like everyone else inside and outside your house, if you don’t maintain your garage door – it will break at some time.

That said, it is recommended to have the garage door services at least once a year. You might want to prevent garage door damage by looking out for the tell-tale signs, such as squeaky and other funny noises that might be coming from the garage door every time you need to get in or out.

As a homeowner, the bottom line is that you have to keep your ears open and never ignore any funny noises from any corner of your property, including the garage door. You can also lubricate the springs with a garage door lubricant.

Prevent Tree Damage

Natural disasters can happen anytime, and if you have a tree near your property, you might want to opt for tree removal, so your house doesn’t get damaged when a storm comes. When the wind starts blowing, there is a higher chance of branches and trees starting to come down.

It is important to mention that trees don’t have to be old or damaged to tumble down on your house. There are certain ways you can tell if they are at the potential risk of falling. For instance, if you see mushrooms or dead areas on a tree, it is a clear indicator that the tree is damaged and that you have to have it removed to protect yourself and your loved ones from getting injured.

If you see clues like these on a tree while the tree is close to your house, it is better to take care of the problem before anything happens.

Remember that it never takes much wind to bring a damaged tree down. Besides, it is not only weak trees that come down – but healthy trees can also fall under the right conditions, such as the right amount of wind, the right circumstances, and the right amount of weight is all that is required to bring any tree down.

Sometimes, ground saturation is also the primary cause of tree falls. If the ground is too saturated, it is typically not firm enough to hold a tree in its place. Besides, if trees are hanging over power lines – this is something else that you will want to watch out for.
